B-SCAN

What is B-Scan Ultrasound?

B-scan ultrasound, also known as brightness scan, is a diagnostic imaging technique that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time, two-dimensional images of the eye’s internal structures. Unlike traditional photography, B-scan ultrasound can penetrate opaque media, such as cataracts or hemorrhages, providing valuable information about the eye’s anatomy.

How Does B-Scan Ultrasound Work?

During a B-scan ultrasound examination, a small probe is gently placed on the eyelid after applying a water-based gel to ensure good contact and minimize air pockets. The probe emits sound waves, which travel through the eye and bounce off its internal structures, creating echoes. These echoes are then captured by the probe and converted into detailed images displayed on a monitor in real-time.
