YAG LASER

A special laser treatment is used to improve your vision after cataract surgery (YAG Laser Capsulotomy) or create a secondary route for aqueous humour drainage in closed angle glaucoma patients (YAG Peripheral Iridectomy). In a YAG Laser Capsulotomy the doctor focuses a laser beam on to the cloudy lens capsule which then breaks it, thus making the vision clearer.  YAG Peripheral Iridectomy involves creating a tiny opening in the peripheral iris, which serves as an alternate route for the drainage of aqueous fluid. This typically allows an opening up of the angle of the eye and reduces intraocular pressure. The narrow or closed angle thus becomes an open angle. This type of laser also prevents acute angle closure glaucoma, which is a very dangerous condition causing blindness in a few days if left untreated.
