You have a growth on the surface of the eye called pterygium. It came from the sun and the hot and dusty environment. It is causing irritation and is threatening to affect your vision. The only way to get rid of the pterygium is to scrape it off. Eyedrops or medicine will not help. The procedure lasts for 15 minutes. We will numb your eye so you will not have any pain during the procedure. Afterwards we place a pad on the eye, and you can go home. You will need to return next morning for an exam. We will remove the pad and give you eyedrops to use for about a month. You will also need to use pills for a week. Your eye will be moderately irritated and red for a few weeks. Your vision might be blurry for a few days but then it will return to what it was before the procedure. If your vision was blurry before the procedure, it might improve afterwards but might not. The main purpose of the procedure is to get rid of the irritation and to improve the cosmetic look of your eye, but NOT to improve your vision.
There is a small chance that the growth might return in a year or more and that you might need a procedure again to remove it.
You should wear sunglasses long-term to prevent the recurrence of the pterygium. Please, do not go to a traditional healer, he cannot help you.
Please, let us know if you have any questions.
I understand the above and I am consenting to the removal of pterygium on my
RIGHT LEFT eye.
